INFORMATION FOR SEX OFFENDERS
HELPFUL LINKS

The Holden Police Department complies with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Law (M.G.L. c. 6, §§ 178C - 178Q) by actively enforcing registration requirements as well as disseminating information about Level 3 and Level 2 Sex Offenders living and/or working in the Town of Holden. Information is released in accordance with the law. Links to the State's Sex Offender Registry Board website as well as pertinent forms for residents and offenders are included on this page.

OBTAINING SEX OFFENDER INFORMATION

When an individual who lives, works, or attends school in Massachusetts is convicted of a sexual offense, the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB) classifies him or her as a Level 1, 2, or 3 Sex Offender. This classification is based upon the danger posed to the public and the likelihood that the person will re-offend. Level 3 is the highest level (most dangerous/most likely to re-offend); Level 1 is the lowest level (least dangerous/least likely to re-offend). Persons who have been convicted of sexual offenses in other states may also be classified in Massachusetts if they move to Massachusetts, attend school here, or are employed within the Commonwealth. For more information, link to the SORB website General Information page .

Residents are entitled to sex offender information as follows:

Level 3 notices for sex offenders who work and/or live in Holden are mailed by the Holden Police Department to public buildings (i.e. post offices, etc.) for voluntary posting so that the general public can readily obtain the information without filing a request. Level 3 notices are also posted at the Holden police station (1420 Main Street), and are available at any time via the Sex Offender Registry Board website search page. Level 3 notices are also included if you file a Request for Sex Offender Information form (see Level 2 below for more information). See our Links section for Level 3 information for the surrounding area.

Level 2 notices for sex offenders who work and/or live in Holden are available by completing the Request for Sex Offender Information form and returning it in person to the Holden police station at 1420 Main Street. You may also submit the form directly to the State. A photo ID is required when filing a request at the police station. Do not mail the form to us--you must turn it in in person. The notices you request (Level 2 and/or Level 3) will be mailed to you once your request is processed. There is no charge for this service.

Note: The Sex Offender Registry Board website search page supplies a count of the number of Level 2 offenders living and/or working within a particular community, but the website does not supply detailed notices.

Level 1 sex offender notices are not public information and are not available to residents.

Unclassified sex offender information (for individuals convicted but not yet classified by the SORB, or those whose level is currently under appeal) is not public information and is not available to residents.

The Holden Police Department enforces the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Law by actively seeking the registrations of offenders living and/or working in our community who have not registered. Offenders should be familiar with the Law as it applies to their individual situation; it is your responsibility to maintain your registration with us in a timely manner.

The Sex Offender Registry Board Information for Offenders page is a very informative source for offenders. You can also obtain registration, re-registration, and change of address forms on their site, or you may pick these up in person at the Holden police station at 1420 Main Street.
