  In March of 1964 in Los Angeles, two men were convicted of kidnapping Frank Sinatra's son and sentenced to life in prison. The captors had demanded that negotiations be conducted via payphone, which resulted in Frank Sinatra's habit of carrying a roll of dimes in his pocket from that day forward. Sinatra paid $240,000 in ransom for the return of his 19 year old son.

Mrs. Raymond Chenevert of Putnam Lane calls re: trouble at her home. Out on same. He had NOT been drinking. I feel that she had contributed to the situation.
2 p.m.
Officer Belleveau of the Worcester PD calls re: one Roger Zalansky of 25 Grand St. Worcester stealing a set of extra fancy hubcaps off of a car that was parked in the school yard at the Chaffins School. He sent the boy to see me and I turned him over to Jas. Oliver who tookhim the owners home where he returned the hubcaps and apologized.

7.30 a.m.
To the Junior High School for the Annual Town Election. Edward C. Hall of 16 Harrington Drive defeated Lloyd Starbard for Selectman by quite a majority.

7.50 a.m.
Out on Phillips Road to check on speeders, No violations. I was up in the school yard so they could not see me till it was too late. Very good drivers.
   
Thursday, March 5th, 1964
3 p.m.
Attorney Ed Reardon calls that he wants a two weeks postponement on the Holbrook vs Cole case. Att. Frank Cranston is Chief Coles lawyer. Would like to plead guilty on two charges and drop the other two. Told him to have Cranston call me direct. Nowak will appear tomorrow.
   
Friday, March 6th 1964
11 a.m.
Hazel Lund calls re: family problems. Daughter Joan has a boyfriend now in Virginia who does not answer her letters. Joan apparently thought that she was in "trouble" so went to the doctor and finds that she is now o.k. The boy in Virginia apparently has a friend "Eli" who is trying to check on her daughter who goes to W.R.H. and comes home on the school bus. She also has seen this same car up by the North Wor. Fox & Coon Club grounds but neglected to get the registration. Will check and see who is in this car. Will have Nowak check about 2.30 pm. Light color Ford.

6.30 p.m.
All men to Wachusett Regional High School for the Annual Town Meeting. Riordan, Hale, Armstrong, Nowak, Pettis, Harvey, McCauley, Hammond on duty. Durant not able physically. J.C. Oliver on call for the Holden Heating Co. and Jas. Oliver on water call duty.

12.20 p.m.
Elvira Albrecht calls that her mother called to get rid of Mrs. Larson. I sent Hammond to send her home.
6.05 p.m.
Chas Canney, 82 Parker Ave. calls re: his son Peter being bitten on leg by dog of Johnston, 89 Parker Ave. Black German Shepherd. Did not draw blood. I called Mr. Johnston re: same, just to let him know.
   
Monday, March 9th, 1964
9 a.m.
Mrs. Ralph Haskins of malden St. calls re: Mrs. Evylynn Larson, wife of Carl Hilding Larson, also of Malden St. is in her bathroom taking a bath. She and her husband just came home and found her there. I called Wm. Henry re: same. He called her husband who works at Reed, Prince Mfg. Co. in Wor. near Webster Square and he came home. She got dressed and we took her back to the State Hospital.
5.32 p.m.
Dick Falgler, of 17 Briarcliff Lane, calls re: conditions at 308A Holden St. Mrs. Carol Gosselin, about 34 years old. Told him that I was not interested in gossip. Wanted facts only. Pettis tells me that Barbara Brunzell Melick, lives next door.

Mr. Evans calls that his son's buddy, Benson had called his mother and told them that he was in Philadelphia and was now headed back home.
4.50 p.m.
Ken Cytron calls from Duesberg Bossn Co. re: boys who drink beer in their cars, across the street, in his parking lot and then throw the empty cans and bottles outside the car. We will check on same.
6 p.m.
Pettis and Hammond on duty. Stormy night and slippery. Mr. Moosa of Malden St. was telling him about his daughter came home the other day crying. Monkey business in the barn owned by Carl Anderson, the former Assessor. I will talk to Mr. Anderson, myself, re: alleged conditions.

10.15 a.m.
Mrs. Robert Guertin of 96 Dorothy Ave. calls re: her son James, 3 1/2 years old, wearing a green corduroy suit, red boots and mittens has been missing for 1 1/2 hours. Also missing is Wm. Thayer, 3 years old, of No.41 Oakcrest Road.
10.35 a.m.
Called Deputy Chief Irvin Rice of the Fire Dept. who called out his men. We also called the Water Dept. and Light Dept. who all responded so well. Pettis and a fellow from the Light Dept. oufnd the children deep in the woods. o.k.
1.10 p.m.
Frank Ray of 41 Meadowood Drive calls re: some troubles with Mrs. Nellie Pronski, 58 years old of 38 Meadowood Drive who kept a ball driven by mistake onto her property by some boys in the area. Her daughter Frances, 38 yrs. old is a teacher.
3.25 p.m.
Mrs. Laura Gamache calls re: boys broke window in her barn and tipped over the garbage pail. Sent Nowak.

Bruce Flegal, of Nola Drive in re: his asking Kirbys Gas Station to remain open all night each night or at least longer hours. Flaygal has charge of seeral gas stations for the Texaco Co.
   
Friday, March 13th, 1964
10.15 a.m.
Amons of Braod St. calls re: female collie around his place since yesterday. She has been feeding the dog, so I told her to discontinue this practice.
11.05 a.m.
Patrolman Boutelle of the State Police in re: that stolen car that was abandoned on Whitney Street. "Red" Butler suggested to him possibilities "Smokey" in the Greendale area, Gerald Logan, John Fant, Chas. Bolster and young Clark whose father owns the Clark Oil Co. This car was stolen Sunday night in Gardner, 3/8 and was found Monday 3/9 at 7 a.m. We talked to Felix Sobol, Chief Joe O'Connor of Princeton, Chief Warren PHelps of West Boylston, Ramstrom who is an officer there and bus owner, who sent us to see his son David R. Ramstrom who operates the Cities Service next to Stuarts Diner by Norton Co. Ramstrom Sr. told us that Norman Mott and his younger brother operate the Cities Service at the corner of E. Mountain St. and Boylston St. at the summit. Officer Boutelle will contact the Rutland PD. Nowak suggested to have him contact Thomas Haney, 20, of Rutland an expert on motors who works in the Parts Dept. at Zottolis and his buddy, Jay Nystrom, 22, of Jefferson who owns a Chev. 62 Corvair. Chief O'Connor suggested Ronald Johnson, 19 of Rutland who worked for Abbot at one time.

Ed McGray, No.75 Raymond St. 3 houses beyond Weston Pierces home compains re: malicious mischief action by boys in his area. Throw firecrackers at his house, damage his fence and race cars up and down Raymond St. area. I will have the men check this area.
   
Monday, March 16th, 1964
8 a.m.
Mrs. Hassett, Park Ave calls re: stray yellow cat around since Friday. I told her not to feed same.
4.30 p.m.
Steven Adams, 5 John St. Holden calls re: his killing dog of Mr. Dickson on Malden St. Worcester near the Holden line. He took the boy and dog to the vets and forgot to give his name, to the boy.
 
Tuesday, March 17th, 1964
11 a.m.
Joseph Zottoli calls re: an anonymous telephone call alleging that Richard Randall of Centerwood Drive stole a set of plates off of a car at the Chaffins Garage and has them hid in an old electric stove or icebox on the old Fales Estate, Malden St.
4.30 p.m.
Mrs. Burt Fiske, of Shrewsbury St. opposite Doyle Road calls that her son apparently has gone off his rocker. He broke his wrist watch, a chair in the cellar, sat at the table and tore up some money and then went out into the garage, started up his motorcycle and raced same, with the garage doors closed. I contacted No.1 Nowak and we went down there. He had just left home on his motorcycle. We finally found him up to his place of employment on Lincoln St. Worcester where he acts as watchman from 4. 30 p.m. to about 11 pm and on Saturdays he works 16 hrs. daily. He apparently owns an old car that has cost him plenty for repairs and he also has a motorcycle which he thought he had sold and then the deal fell through. He is a Senior at the W.R.H. School. His motorcycle is reg. 4644.

Call re: Real Estate Sign over the mailbox of Miles Ingalls on Shrewsbury St. corner of Newell Road, gives people th idea that his place is for sale. There is in small letters a telephone number on the sign. Had McCauley remove the sign.

Mrs. Henderson formerly the Maenpa girl calls re: shotting in the area of Putnam Lane where she lives. I sent Nowak to investigate. Chapter 131 Sec. 85 page 174 50 yards of a highway and 500 feet of a dwelling.

Mrs. Fred Christman Phillips Road calls re: a Red Falcon, Convertible operated by a woman with light hair hit her parked car at 7.40 am and did not stop. Damages $85.00. I will look for this car Friday morning.
10.20 a.m.
Mr. Williams of Route 68 in re: his son Michael 16 yrs. old of W.R.H. was struck by his gym teacher yesterday and he is taking him to a Doctor for examination. Suggested that he contact Mr. Skillings. Moran is the Phys. Ed. teacher.
7.40 p.m.
Anna McNamara, 31 Parker Ave calls re: mysterious phone calls. Sent Hale to investigate.

Joseph Harrington in re: complaint filed by Mrs. Lawton about Bullard St. not having any traffic control signs. I contacted Red Nawn of the St. Dept. who went with me and looked the situation over. Going west on Bullard St. one sign, Slow Children, red type, 50 feet beyond Oregon Trail, one sign just beyond Ralph Wagners, one sign just beyond Alvira Albrechts. Coming up the hill, one sign 30 feet from the junction of Malden and Bullard and one sign opposite home of Cook. Also install the other STOP sign going West on Bullard St. at Malden St.

Rev. Baggs of the Baptist Church calls to have Maple St. one way like last year for Easter Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. o.k.

McCauley and Mr. MacGregor in re: his missing daughter Sandra Jean MacGregor, born July 27, 1947 5'6" 135 lbs. of 185 Chapel St. Wearing a Chesterfield coat, black with black velvet collar. May be wearing red or blue slacks. 16 yrs. old. Her boy friend is A3C Allan R. Lloyd, CMR No.1 Box 911, Chanuet AFB Illinois. Father is Harold Lloyd, tel 7579072, 473 Lake Ave. Worcester. Sister is Mrs. Sharron Helle, Lewis Road, Rutland. Last seen by Joyse Brunsma, of Homestead Road on Monday evening, 3/23rd. Later Joyce said that she had goe to a YWCA in Chicago Illinois and was going to see her boy friend, the first of the month.

10 a.m.
Mr. George Nideur of Holden St. next to 318A, home of Mrs. Carol Gosselin, complains re: large rats around her place. Is on his way up to see Board of Health. He knew her previous to her moving to Holden.
4 p.m.
Called Dick Welsh and Roger Lindfors re: their being appointed as police officers in Holden, and to see me at their convenience to be sworn in.

Chet Atkins, Sr. calls re: hearing that some boys are coming over from Paxton at 11 a.m. for a "rumble". One of the new boys from Paxton who comes to W.R.H. is supposed to have been given a rought time by some of our local boys.
11.45 a.m.
State Police call re: bank holdup in Worcester.
11.50 a.m.
Checked out boys in station yard who were congregated re: alleged "Rumble" with the Paxton boys.

FBI, George Hammel calls re: one Geo. McLaughlin of Boston, called Barbara Smith on Holden St. March 16th 8.45 p.m. from "Tinys" in Boston.
12.05 p.m.
Barbara Smith calls, that her mother received the call. Man was looking for Buddy, her brother who is now in Florida. "Buddy" is Chandler Smith, 7 Briarcliff Lane, Holden. He drive an oil truck. I called back F.B.I.

Sophie Waite calls to inquire if there are any short wave sets in the town of Holden. Referred her to the Red Cross.
6 p.m.
Woody MacGregor calls that his daughter is now with his brother in law in Chicago. Told McCauley to notify the State Police re: missing person circular.

Mrs. Auger 9-3735 Dr. Bowlbys office calls re: the installation of phone wires in my home. I called the phone co. and they will install same this afternoon, and I will call Mrs. Auger back at once after the wires are installed.

Mrs. Shipman off the Chaffins Congregational Church calls re: giving talk to her girls Friday 4 p.m. re: bicycle safety to the Girl Scout troop. o.k.
5 p.m.
Fire alarm. House fire on 47 Montana Drive. Sent Nowak. Oil burner overflowed. He shut fuel off.
8.45 p.m.
Blanche Keyes calls. Is sick in bed.
